Lead Embedded Software Engineer – Motor Drives Research

They strive to get the latest technologies in our products, working with NPI and wider research teams to consider all aspects of complex products including thermals, optics, electromagnetics, aero-acoustics, mechanical design, microbiology and machine learning.
About The Role
Leading a motor drive software project, working as an individual contributor or supervising a
small engineering team.
Being a subject matter expert in motor drives and control in embedded software.
Demonstrating new motor controls and features using the latest evaluation and production
Producing well engineered software and documentation for handover to development teams.
Reviewing relevant papers and patents and meeting with suppliers to keep informed of
A balance of creative and pragmatic engineering approaches.
Writing documents and making presentations. Sharing subject matter expertise with others.
Following and introducing best practices and processes within the team to ensure developed
software is reliable and safe.
Identify emerging IP and ensure inventions are submitted to the IP team.
Researching into new and emerging technologies through visiting conferences, trade shows,
meeting suppliers, reading papers and patents.
Skills & Experiences
The latest embedded system trends and technologies.
Teamworking skills with the ability to lead others when necessary.
C programming for embedded systems.
ARM based microcontrollers and microprocessors.
MCU analogue data acquisition for sampling high-speed signals.
Developing safety software and plausibility checks to ensure hardware is functioning
correctly such as Class B for consumer appliances.
Reading electronic schematics and knowledge of electronic PCB assemblies and
Programming real time systems.
Use of Matlab or Python for data acquisition and analysis.
Safe working in a laboratory environment, testing and debugging software on mains voltage,
high-speed machines and test equipment.
Agile working using Atlassian tools and creating project plans.
Education and experience:
BEng/MEng degree (or equivalent) in Software, Electronic Engineering, or other relevant
discipline, or a demonstrable level of industrial experience in a relevant industry.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability to research, innovate, as well as being a
key contributor to strengthening the culture of innovation within the team and wider
